  2. Personally I don't think either the professor or the student was right.
In my view their debate is sterile and ultimately meaningless. There is no absolute truth anywhere to be found.... we live in a contingent and situational multiverse where neither positivism or universalism any longer holds water.

To me this a catechism in a collapsing paradigm and a dying socio-cultural mileau....that's how I see it anyway Daseuss..... but thanks for the story anyway, it was good fun to read it :-)

PS the deletion was due to a nasty little typo :-(

    1. Really, I'm not all that sensitive. Chaos is not my cup of tea nor is the rationale that empirical data is the purveyor of truth to our existence. Faith is what it is, non tangible and not necessarily reasonable. Good to hear from you my friend ;-)

  3. This is wrong on so many levels. All the things the student asks about are demonstratable. Unlike the questions about God. Even Evolution is empirically demonstratable (and recently observable in certain organisisms).

But let's take the argument that cold doesn't exit; that it is merely the absence of heat. Fair point. Is darkness just the absence of light? I guess the writer of Isaiah didn't know that (it says in Isaiah 45:7 that God formed the light and created darkess).

Let's see how these arguments relate to good and evil. Which of the two doesn't exit? Did God create the world pure evil and good is just the absence of evil? (The same Isaiah 45:7 says God created evil). Or is it, despite this verse, that God created all good and evil is just the absence of good? So God created a world that is perfectly good, but his creation (us?) makes it evil? How do we know to make it evil? He must have created within us the ability not to be good.

And when there is not good (ie the absence of good being evil), God either doesn't care to do anything about it, or maybe he can't? Which is it? An evil God (he must be evil if he doesn't stop evil when he can) or a finite God with little power?

This is all nonsense. And Einstein certainly never said this!!

  4. And then of course there is that it is untrue. Einstein did not take part in this at all
